The Preacher
Johannes Segogela
PaintingSegogela (born 1936, Limpopo) is one of South Africa's most distinctive self-taught sculptors, carving figures from raw wood with bold naive forms that address religious life, political satire, and everyday township characters. His painted carvings combine humor and pathos in a singular visual language that has been collected internationally. Works are held in the Pretoria Art Museum and the South African National Gallery.
